$750M Greenleigh at Crossroads development kicks off

Baltimore (May 17, 2016) — Baltimore County’s answer to the successful mixed-use Maple Lawn community in Howard County is set to begin construction this week.
The 200-acre, $750 million Greenleigh at Crossroads development will be located on Route 43 in White Marsh and, when built out, will contain 1,500 residential units, both single family and apartments, 128,000 square feet of retail space and 428,000 square feet of office space.
There will also be a 120-room Marriott SpringHill Suites hotel expected to break ground in the fall.
Baltimore County Executive Kevin Kamenetz and other public officials attended a ground breaking ceremony at the site Tuesday morning.
Kamenetz called the development”place-making at its best” because of its location near a MARC commuter train station, Interstates 95 and 695 and White Marsh.
He has compared the new development in the county’s northeast quadrant to Maple Lawn, a successful mixed-use development on 600 acres in Howard County. Maple Lawn is developed by majority partners St. John Properties and Greenebaum Enterprises.
Greenleigh at Crossroads will be constructed in a partnership with St. John Properties, Somerset Construction and Elm Street Development.
It is a part of the ongoing 1,000-acre Baltimore Crossroads development by St. John Properties located on Route 43 between White Marsh and Middle River. A total of 10,000 new jobs are expected in the development once it is built out, Kamenetz said.
“We thoughtfully and carefully designed this new live-work-play community to create a 24-hour environment,” said Ed St. John, chairman of St. John Properties, in a statement.
Somerset Construction built The Arbors at Baltimore Crossroads, a 365-unit apartment building that opened five years ago in the community.
