Andrew Roud, St. John Properties; Dr. Ernest L. Murphy, Hospitality Development Group, Bowie Mayor G. Frederick Robinson and Jay Riley, St. John Properties were among the attendees at the grand opening ceremony of the Courtyard by Marriott Bowie at Melford Town Center. The project, located at 16800 Science Drive, is owned by Hospitality Development Company Group, a minority-owned hotel development and management company specializing in Marriott hotels. Melford Town Center, developed by St. John Properties, is a mixed-use community located at the intersection of MD Routes 3, 50 and 301 in Prince George’s County.

Courtyard Bowie has 144 guest rooms, conference and meeting facilities, an indoor swimming pool, exercise room, restaurant and bar, and an outdoor courtyard with a fire pit. The hotel has been designed for LEED certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.

At the event, Dr. Ernest L. Murphy announced plans to develop two additional hospitality projects at Melford Town Center, including a Residence Inn consisting of 125 suites and a SpringHill Suites consisting of 100 Suites. All three hotels will be developed for LEED certification.

“Courtyard Bowie is the most ambitious project we have undertaken to date and we thank St. John Properties for the opportunity to be part of this community,” Murphy said. “This project is a larger and more upscale hotel aimed at providing a first-class lodging experience for our clientele. The $30 million facility and our growing hotel park will promote economic development in Prince George’s County and provide full- and part-time employment opportunities for many residents of the County.”
