Edward St. John

Edward St. John

Founder & Chairman

Edward St. John, Founder and Chairman of St. John Properties, started the company in 1971.  Headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland, St. John Properties has developed, constructed and owns more than 21 million square feet of office, flex/research & development, retail, and warehouse space, serving more than 2,500 clients in Maryland, Colorado, Louisiana, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia and Wisconsin.  In addition, St. John Properties has developed residential projects. He currently owns 2,500 apartments and is involved in three large residential mixed-use projects.  St. John Properties is at the forefront of the industry with the design and construction of 82 LEED certified buildings. Today, the company’s assets are valued at more than $4 billion. St. John Properties was named the 2018 NAIOP “Developer of the Year”  for the Nation and was awarded the 2020 “Best Places to Work”  by the Baltimore Business Journal (1st Place, Large Business).

 

In 1998 St. John established the Edward St. John Foundation, a separate 501(c)3. The mission, “to provide financial assistance to formal education programs through the high school level,” is based on the belief that “education has the power to transform lives and provide a foundation for success.” His generosity has had a pivotal impact, providing students with opportunities to place them on the path to success. He left the Foundation Board in 2007, turning philanthropic responsibility over to the other members of the Board of Trustees. More than $65 million has been donated and pledged by the Baltimore native through his philanthropy, his company and foundation.  Equally important, his generosity has inspired others to give!

 

St. John has served on numerous boards and committees including the University of Maryland Medical Center, UMMC R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, B&O Railroad Museum, Johns Hopkins Edward St. John Real Estate Program, Maryland Academy of Sciences at the Maryland Science Center, Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore, Baltimore Economic Development Commission, and various County Planning Boards, among others.

 

Long recognized for his outstanding accomplishments, St. John has received numerous honors and awards. In May 2012, he was bestowed a Doctor of Public Service from his alma mater, the University of Maryland College Park, from which he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1961. He was named #8 in the “Top 15”  of the 2021 “Power 100 ” for the State of Maryland.  Other awards include Maryland’s “Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year”, “Philanthropist of the Year”  for Anne Arundel County,“Maryland Entrepreneur of the Year”, been given Lifetime Achievement Awards, and inductions into to several Halls of Fame.

Lawrence Maykrantz

Mr. Maykrantz has been with St. John Properties since 1982. He held the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial officer prior to his appointment as President in March 2011. He oversees day-to-day functions of St. John Properties, with specific responsibilities including all phases of development, asset management, marketing, leasing and financial operations. Mr. Maykrantz holds a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, an M.B.A. from the University of Baltimore, and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland.

Robert Becker

Executive Vice President

Mr. Becker has been with St. John Properties since 1975, and is responsible for working with existing tenants to meet their space and growth needs within St. John Properties’ Baltimore portfolio. A graduate of Loyola College in Maryland, he holds a degree in business administration.

Sean Doordan

Sean Doordan

Executive Vice President, Leasing & Acquisitions

Mr. Doordan has been with St. John Properties since 2005. He is responsible for overseeing all leasing activities in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. portfolio, as well as sourcing and evaluating potential land and building acquisition opportunities. Mr. Doordan earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management from the University of Delaware and a Master of Health Administration from The George Washington University. He also earned a Master of Science degree in Real Estate from the Edward St. John Real Estate Program at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.

Jeffrey Gish

Jeffrey Gish

Executive Vice President, Construction

Mr. Gish joined St. John Properties in 1988 and oversees land development, design, and building construction. He earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from West Virginia University and an M.B.A. from Frostburg State University.

William McFaul

William McFaul

Executive Vice President, Property Management

Mr. McFaul, who joined St. John Properties in 2014, formerly served as Divisional Vice President for a commercial real estate firm in the Washington, DC Metro area, where he managed more than 6.5 million square feet of office and R&D/flex space. Mr. McFaul holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master’s in Business Administration in Finance from Loyola College in Maryland.

Thomas Pilon

Executive Vice President, Development

Mr. Pilon, who joined St. John Properties in 1997, manages development projects in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll and Howard counties. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Maryland and is a licensed professional engineer.

Lori Rice

Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

Ms. Rice has been with the company since 2000. She develops and executes all financial strategies, planning and forecasting initiatives to continue the company’s fiscal stability and long-term growth. Ms. Rice earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Mount St. Mary’s College and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland.

Mr. Fax has been with St. John Properties since 1987. He is responsible for all the company’s activities in Wisconsin. He holds a B.B.A. degree and an M.S. in real estate from the University of Wisconsin.

Matthew Holbrook

Matthew Holbrook

Regional Partner, Virginia & Central Maryland

Mr. Holbrook joined St. John Properties in 2009. As Regional Partner, he directs the comprehensive development, acquisition, construction, leasing, and asset/property management activities for the firm’s portfolio in Virginia as well as Maryland’s Frederick and Montgomery counties. Mr. Holbrook has more than 25 years of diverse experience in the commercial real estate industry with a Bachelor of Science from East Carolina University and a Masters in Business Administration in Real Estate and Finance from American University in Washington, D.C. Mr. Holbrook has also served as adjunct faculty/lecturer at the graduate real estate programs of Georgetown University and John Hopkins University.

Mr. Jenkins has been with St. John Properties since 2014. As Regional Partner, he directs the comprehensive development, acquisition, construction, leasing, and asset/property management activities for the firm’s portfolio in Colorado. Mr. Jenkins earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Planning from the University of Utah and a Master of Science degree in Real Estate from the Edward St. John Real Estate Program at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.

Todd Pevey

Regional Partner, Louisiana

Mr. Pevey has been with St John Properties since 2001 and manages all day-to-day operations in Louisiana. Mr. Pevey holds a Bachelor of Arts from Loyola of New Orleans and a Masters degree from Louisiana State University.

Andrew Roud

Andrew Roud

Regional Partner, Southern Maryland

Mr. Roud has been with St. John Properties since 2009 and is responsible for overseeing political and legislative relation and activities. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Urban Development/Geography from the University of Western Ontario in London, Canada, and is a graduate of the Leadership Maryland Class of 2012. Mr. Roud is an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland College Park, frequent guest lecturer at Johns Hopkins University and Georgetown University, as well as a Bowie State University Foundation board member.

Mr. Thomas, who joined St. John Properties in 2009, is responsible for all operations of St. John Properties Utah. He holds a B.A. in Real Estate Finance from Portland State University and a M.S. in Real Estate from Johns Hopkins. He has instructed courses in commercial real estate at Johns Hopkins, the University of Baltimore, and the University of Utah, and is a past chairman of the University of Baltimore’s Real Estate & Economic Development Advisory Board.

Ms. Pfeiler has been with St. John Properties since 1991. She oversees the financing activities of the company’s real estate portfolio. Ms. Pfeiler earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Maryland at Baltimore County.

Ms. Sychuk has been with St. John Properties since 2002. She is responsible for the financial analysis and valuation activities for the Company’s assets. Ms. Sychuk earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Villanova University and a Master of Science degree in Real Estate from the Edward St. John Real Estate Program at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School. Additionally, she completed a Certificate in Accounting from the University of Baltimore.

Ms. Akers has been with St. John Properties since 2007. She oversees the company’s involvement in and sponsorship of activities that support local communities. Ms. Akers is also President of the Edward St. John Foundation, and manages its day-to-day functions, dedicated to supporting and assisting formal education programs through the high school level. Ms. Akers earned her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maryland College of Journalism. She serves on the Board of Trustees for the University of Maryland College Park Foundation, University of Maryland Medical System R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma, Johns Hopkins Heart & Vascular Institute, Johns Hopkins Greenberg Bladder Cancer Institute, McDonogh School Strategic Planning Committee and The Edward St. John Foundation.

Ms. Deoliveira has been with St. John Properties since 2013. She oversees the in-house interior design and space planning efforts of the design department. Ms. Deoliveira earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Textile Design from the University of California at Davis and a Masters in Interior Design from Washington State University.

Mr. Dickson has been with St. John Properties since 2001. He overseeing the ground-up construction management activities of the company’s real estate portfolio. Mr. Dickson earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Construction Management from Northern Michigan University and received his LEED, AP designation from the U. S. Green Building Council.

Ms. Goode has been with the company since 2005 and is responsible for the oversight and implementation of tax strategies, relationships with joint venture partners and financial reporting. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland University College and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland.

Bill Holzman

Vice President, Retail Leasing

Mr. Holzman has been with St. John Properties since 2007. He oversees the marketing and leasing efforts for the retail space portfolio in Maryland, Northern Virginia and Harrisburg Mall. Mr. Holzman also assists in retail site acquisition activities and site layout strategies. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Emory University and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Matt Lenihan has been with St. John Properties since 2001. He manages the company’s leasing efforts for St. John Properties’ portfolio of commercial office and flex/R&D space throughout the Baltimore region.   Matt earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Tech, and a Masters of Business Administration from The Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland at College Park. He serves on the Board of Directors for Unified Community Connections and the Army Alliance, and is a member of the Board of Trustees for the Baltimore Museum of Industry.

Ms. Mallonee has been with St. John Properties since 2007. She oversees the planning, directing and coordinating of internal operational functions of St. John Properties in support of the company’s continuing growth. Ms. Mallonee earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Baltimore and her Masters in Business Administration from Loyola College, and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland.

Mr. Nelson has been with St. John Properties since 2009. He oversees the company’s Interior Construction department and manages all tenant build-out activities. Mr. Nelson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture with a concentration in Urban Studies and City Planning from Columbia University in New York City.

Mr. Severn, who joined St. John Properties in 2008, manages development projects in Frederick, Montgomery, and Washington counties in Maryland, as well as Loudoun and Prince William counties in Virginia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from York College and a Master of Science degree in Real Estate from the Edward St. John Real Estate Program at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School.

Ms. Thayer has worked for the company since 2009. She oversees the company’s accounting and financial reporting activities for the company’s real estate portfolio. Ms. Thayer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland at College Park and is a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland.

Ms. Watsic has worked with the company since 2013. She is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the company’s Development Division. She is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Maryland.

He oversees in-house design related to site development, building shell and core construction, and property management with a particular emphasis on the aesthetics of hardscape, landscape and public space design. Ms. Young has been with St. John Properties since 2016. She oversees the in-house interior design and space planning efforts across St. John Properties’ portfolio of commercial space in Utah. Ms. Young earned her Bachelor’s degree in Family Studies from Brigham Young University. She currently serves on the Board of the Pleasant Grove-Lindon Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Zahner has been with St. John Properites since 2014. He oversee the hardscape, landscape and public space design program and strategy that adds value to the company’s portfolio of mixed-use business communities; office and warehouse buildings and retail shopping centers. Mr. Zahner earned a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from the University of Maryland at College Park.
