Edward St. John Named 2012 Mount Saint Joseph High School Alumnus of the Year

BALTIMORE, MD (April 3, 2012) – Edward St. John, Founder and Chairman of the Board of the commercial real estate firm St. John Properties, Inc., has been given the 2012 Alumnus of the Year Award by Mount Saint Joseph High School, a Catholic college preparatory school in Baltimore. The award is presented annually by the Mount Saint Joseph Alumni Association to an alumnus who has distinguished himself in his profession or community by an outstanding deed or service.

Founded in 1971, St. John Properties owns and has developed more than 15 million square feet of R&D/flex, office, retail and warehouse space throughout Maryland, Colorado, Louisiana, Virginia and Wisconsin and serves more than 1,600 tenants. More than $43 million has been contributed, pledged and gifted by Ed St. John and The Edward St. John Foundation, his company’s philanthropic arm, to a variety of not-for-profit organizations in communities where his company maintains a business presence. In addition, last year Mr. St. John personally pledged $10 million to the University of Maryland at College Park to help fund the Edward St. John Learning and Teaching Center.

“Ed is recognized regionally as an extremely successful businessman and a significant community leader and, for the Mount Saint Joseph community, he has made a long-term impact by contributing so generously to the furthering of our young people’s education,” explained Barry Fitzpatrick, Mount Saint Joseph Principal. “Many people in Maryland have amassed fortunes, but relatively few have donated so selflessly to benefit worthwhile endeavors which, in turn, help build strong communities.”

“The education I received and the values that I learned from Mount Saint Joseph High School played an integral role in my business success, and they remain a powerful influence in my personal life,” explained Ed St. John. “I consider this award an immense honor and am humbled to be included with the list of past winners. We believe that education holds the power to transforms lives and is the foundation and driver for the development of our future leaders. The educational philosophy of Mount Saint Joseph stimulates interaction, socialization and learning, and we will continue to support this outstanding institution.”

Mr. St. John remains active in a number of community organizations, chairing the Board of Trustees of the Maryland Academy of Sciences/Maryland Science Center and serving on the Board of Directors of The Johns Hopkins University Real Estate Institute, the BWI Business Partnership and the UMBC Alex Brown Center for Entrepreneurship. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland.
