St. John Properties Named as Finalist in NAIOP National “Developer of the Year” Competition

BALTIMORE (June 29, 2010) – St. John Properties, the Baltimore-based commercial real estate firm with more than 15 million square feet of space in its five-state portfolio, has been named a finalist in the annual NAIOP National “Developer of the Year” competition. The company is one of only five firms across the country to make this list, with the eventual winner to be announced at NAIOP’s Development ′10 conference in Orlando, Florida in November.

NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, is the leading organization for developers, owners and related professionals in office, industrial and mixed-use real estate. The “Developer of the Year” award is presented each year to one NAIOP member/developer company that best exemplifies leadership and innovation in the commercial real estate industry. It is determined by a selection committee of industry peers that utilizes six criteria to evaluate each entry: industry and business leadership, involvement in NAIOP, quality of products and services, financial consistency and stability, ability to adapt to market conditions, and social consciousness.

Founded in 1967, NAIOP comprises more than 16,500 members in 55 North American chapters and provides networking opportunities, educational programs, research on trends and innovations and strong legislative representation. The NAIOP-Maryland chapter includes more than 330 members.

“Considering the strong competition that exists annually for this award around the country, it is a high honor to earn a place on the list of finalists,” said Edward A. St. John, President and Founder of St. John Properties. “The recognition is a tribute to the continued hard work and vision of our entire team, which has successfully navigated our firm through various real estate cycles. We have a healthy pipeline of development activity, a stable tenant base and are on solid financial footing after nearly 40 years of involvement in the commercial real estate industry.”

Over the past several years, St. John Properties has increased it company-wide efforts to develop and maintain projects that satisfy requirements for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. Melford Plaza II, its four-story, 145,000 square foot Class “A” office building in Prince George’s County earned a LEED Silver designation for Core and Shell from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC), and an interior fit-out for Social Solutions at Baltimore Crossroads@95 was also honored with a LEED Silver certification.

St. John Properties, Inc., founded in 1971 as MIE Properties, owns and has developed more than 15 million square feet of R&D/flex, office, warehouse and retail space in Maryland, Colorado, Louisiana, Virginia and Wisconsin.
