St. John Properties Selects Matthew F. Holbrook as Director-Federal Programs

BALTIMORE, MD (July 10, 2009) – St. John Properties, Inc., a full-service commercial real estate firm with more than 14 million square feet of space throughout five states, has announced the selection of Matthew L. Holbrook as Director-Federal Programs. He was formerly Senior Director of Real Estate for Opus East, LLC.

In his new position, Mr. Holbrook will oversee all development, construction, marketing and asset management functions for the Government and Technology Enterprise (GATE) Enhanced Use Leasing (EUL) project at Aberdeen Proving Ground. In June, St. John Properties was assigned the exclusive development rights for the 413-acre site in Harford County, which, upon completion, could support up to two million square feet of research and development and Class “A” office space. The Department of Army approved the assignment of these rights to the Baltimore-based commercial real estate company.

Mr. Holbrook brings a diversified background in commercial real estate to St. John Properties in a career that spans more than 15 years. In addition to spending nearly five years with Opus East working on projects throughout the Maryland and Northern Virginia marketplace, he was also Senior Vice President with First Management Group, Development Director of Struever Bros., Eccles & Rouse and Program Manager for Apex Companies.

Mr. Holbrook has been responsible for several notable projects including a 145,000 square foot secure office building for Lockheed Martin, a 160,000 square foot secure office building for Northrop Grumman, a 60,000 square foot building for CACI and other significant projects in Maryland, Virginia, Ohio and California.

He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties, the Association of the U.S. Army, and the Society for American Military Engineers. Mr. Holbrook resides in Woodbine, Maryland.

“In Matt, St. John Properties has gained an experienced professional with a demonstrated ability to successfully oversee an array of multi-faceted commercial real estate projects,” stated Jerry Wit, Senior Vice President – Marketing for St. John Properties. “He was the natural choice to continue his development and design work for this Enhanced Use Lease project, which is the largest and most ambitious project underway with the U.S. Army. We consider this GATE project the most significant commercial real estate opportunity in the history of our company and have great confidence in Matt’s talent and vision.”
